Drunk dinner lady jailed

DINNER lady Catherine Bickerdike was jailed for six months today after driving home from school almost six times over the drink-drive limit. She was also banned from driving for four years. The 29-year-old mother of one had been sent home after school staff smelled her boozy breath. Bickerdike, who has a six-year-old son, had been reported to police by terrified motorists who had tried to stop her continuing on her way home.

But she continued her seven-mile journey from Heyhouses junior school in St Anne’s, Lancs. When police breathalysed her, she gave a reading of 183 micrograms of alcohol per 100 mililitres of her breath - the second highest reading ever recorded for a woman driver in the UK. The legal limit is 35 micrograms in 100 millilitres of breath.
