last nite; marx and an apartment fire.

MARX was real cool last night, it wasn't terribly crowded but there were some interesting people in attendance. I'm getting really bored with garage music; I think I have exhausted the p2p networks for spin worthy 2step. I have a friend who has a large collection; I'm hitting him up sometime this week to rummage through his hard drive for some new material. My mixing last night was horrible, really awful; I stumbled through nearly every transition and made several really stupid mistakes with the mixer. Seriously, learning on the job like this is not fun in the least, entirely nerve racking and not recommended. On the other hand I couldn't ask for a better environment, as no one there seems to notice or care, so it's kind of like my little lab. Nobody who said they were coming actually showed up last night!

On my way to the place last night, while trudging up 16th street I started to hear fire engines and police sirens in the distance, as I walked past the Woodner apartment building (the city’s largest apartment complex) there was smoke visible coming from one of the top floors, the lobby appeared to be smoky and there was a large crowd outside. I walked past the front of the building as the first couple of pump trucks arrived and fire fighters ran into the building. I really need to start carrying a camera with me. Looking for news items about the fire this morning I came across a DC Fire and EMS webpage with details of the blaze; can’t find any dc news outlets running anything about it. Looks like it was quickly contained and no one was seriously hurt. Good work DCFD!

Passenger freaks out, leaves plane

hmm.. No air marshall on board this time, he's lucky to be alive.
Man jumps out of plane onto tarmac at Fort Lauderdale Airport

The Associated Press
Posted January 23 2006, 9:35 PM EST

FORT LAUDERDALE -- A passenger on a commercial flight jumped out of the airplane as it prepared to take off Monday from Fort Lauderdale, authorities said.

Troy Rigby, 28, was detained on the tarmac by officers who used a stun gun to subdue him, said the Broward County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

The Boeing 737 had been delayed for about 30 minutes and as it began to move toward the runway Rigby started yelling to get off. He ran to the front of the plane, and banged on windows and the cockpit door. As passengers and crew tried to restrain him Rigby bit a passenger, the sheriff's office said.

When the pilot depressurized the cabin Rigby opened a door and jumped out onto the tarmac, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies found him running toward the terminal and zapped with a stun gun after he resisted arrest. He was then taken to the Broward General Medical Center, but it was unclear if he was injured, the sheriff's office said.

Rigby will be charged with criminal mischief, criminal trespass, battery, resisting arrest with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer, in addition to an outstanding warrant for marijuana possession, the sheriff's office said.

Continental flight 408 was headed from the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport to a Newark, N.J. airport. The flight had been delayed after passengers boarded because of weather conditions in its flight path, airport spokesman Jim Reynolds said.

The plane was carrying 116 passengers and a crew of five. It was rescheduled for later Monday, Continental spokesman Martin DeLeon said.

wtf?

I was reading another blog that I tripped across today, and read this.
One answer as to why this demeaning trick works: women are predisposed to want to please people and earn everyone’s approval. And what the fuck is up with that, yo? This is the sense in which I actually value my bitchiness. Most of my friends say I came off as a stuck -up cold bitch when they first met me. I’m trying to cultivate that in a better direction; as in, letting people’s displeasure towards me roll off my back, because ultimately, I shouldn’t give a flying fuck if they like me.

But yes. I must say, that I do have to fight the urge to make everyone happy and like me. It was much worse when I was younger, when I wouldn’t be able to sleep if so-and-so was mad at me. I’m better about it now, but I still wonder if perhaps this is a biological thing? Or a socially influenced thing? On all women?

Why am I like this as well? Why am I such a fucking girl? I do this soooo much, If I find out that someone dosen't like me or someone snubs me or is rude to me on purpose it reallly bothers me. Messes up my whole day. But I'm spoussed to be a a guy, you know agressive and crude. but that's not me at all. and i know I'm straight, so i don't think that's the issue at all. So why can't I be brutish and controlling like other guys? I treat women with the respect that biology and society tells me that they don't deserve or want and it gets me nowheres contstantly. She goes on to talk about how if someone dosen't like her she then tries to please them even further, totally me too. For some reason if someone does something rude to me I seem to want to get to know them even more, and additionally it then weighs on my mind constantly. ERRGGHH!!! I need a drink.

yeah, yeah I know!

Ok just one more I promise and then I am done!

amazing dribbling

This is so rad that i couldn't help but share it! Enjoy.

this weekend

This weekend I'm going to skate as much as I can. Since I don't have any ID right now, I'm not going to be able to see the DNB LIB tour at cubik, which I'm pretty bummed about. So to find something interesting to do I'm going to hit the streets instead. I have to go check out the movie Tristan and Isolde as well cause I'm dying to see it. that's it, my weekend layed bare.

As such I won’t be offering any drinks if you mention mattb's thought zone, instead I'll ask you who in their right mind would ever read this tripe. Seeya there!

redskins not going to superbowl.

Awwhhh... I'm real disappointed on this. They never should have kicked that missed field goal; they should have just gone for it on fourth down instead of trying to kick a field goal. Gibbs showed his balls earlier in the game when he went for it on fourth down instead of punting, why didn't he do the same when the team was in the red zone, when it really mattered? This continues the awful trend which the redskins routinely exhibit whereby they loose momentum during the third and fourth quarters of games. I thought that we were perhaps beyond that and the skins were in fact capable of sustaining a credible effort during the second half. and for awhile I thought that that was the case. But after I saw that failed field goal fly left of the uprights I knew at that point that our playoff hopes were spent and that we'll have to wait for the next season for a chance at the super bowl. Oh well. I will always love the redskins; they are my team through thick and thin. Once we have captured the Vince Lombardi trophy for another time, which will be a sweet day truly for all of us in DC. I tell ya, beating Dallas and Philly twice during the regular season as soooooooo sweet! I was there at FedEx field to witness in person the first Philly victory and it was quite awesome. Redskins’ football is crazy to watch. I can't believe that we put the hurt on Alexander so hard that he couldn't play anymore and after that they still lost. Oh well. I guess there's always next year.

I really hope that the bears go on to the super bowl. I think that they have a decent chance of defeating the panthers, which I truly detest.

Ya, know, I am very optimistic for next season. Joe Gibbs is 16-5 in the post season and he will certainly carry us to victory in the future. For he is our Joan of Arc, our Pancho Villa, our George Washington and our Richard the Lionhart. We’ll be back, for shizzle ma nizzle.

I have good news!

I got the worker bee award from Buzzlife in recognition of my promotional efforts. This is so cool!! I have been working for them for almost three years now and it's really gratifying to receive some formal recognition of my efforts. This party, Cubik, is the cornerstone of the DC clubbing experience and I'm proud to have had a hand in its continuing success. So yeah, I’m totally psyched on it, go Buzzlife and everybody go to Cubik and party it up while your there.

Additionally, if anyone who reads this space wants to go to nation nightclub on a Friday to the Cubik dance party, send an email to me and I’ll put you on the guest list so that it’s free for you! Also, be sure and tell all your friends about the Cubik party, it truly is something unique and should be enjoyed by everyone in the District of Columbia.

BOH!!

US tries to regulate space

no, no, no,.. :shakesheadindisgust:
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is attempting to regulate the commercial space industry in a bid to ensure minimum safety standards.

There should be an international framework, a global space agency with member nations that will draw up these regulations. Not the FAA. Much of what they are trying to do here strikes me as silly at first but I also realize they are planning for the future when commercial space travel matures into a larger industry that would then need to be regulated, but the United States FAA has no business trying to regulate something like this.

US draws up space tourism rules

Space tourists must be screened to ensure they are not terrorists, according to proposed regulations from the US Federal Aviation Administration.

The draft report's suggestions aim to prevent a terrorist from destroying a spacecraft or using it as a weapon.

However, the report has no strict proposals on the health of any would-be space tourists.

The suggestions will affect Sir Richard Branson's enterprise which aims to launch people into space this decade.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is attempting to regulate the commercial space industry in a bid to ensure minimum safety standards.

It has recommended security checks similar to those for airline passengers.

The public interest is served by creating a clear legal, regulatory, and safety regime for commercial human spaceflight
FAA

The FAA also suggests space tourism companies check the global "no-fly" list, from the US Homeland Security Department, to exclude potential terrorists.

"New technologies carry new risks. Nonetheless, Congress recognises that private industry has begun to develop commercial launch vehicles capable of carrying human beings into space, and greater private investment in these efforts will stimulate the nation's commercial space transportation industry as a whole," said the report.

"The public interest is served by creating a clear legal, regulatory, and safety regime for commercial human spaceflight."

Companies should give passengers safety advice including the number of flights the spacecraft has been on and any problems they have experienced with the craft, according to further recommendations in the report.

Space tourists should also be given pre-flight training to handle emergency situations such as a loss of cabin pressure or fire.

However, the FAA has so far left any medical requirements in the hands of the tourist, who should decide themselves if they are fit to fly.

The draft regulations could come into force soon, as the first space tourists have already made it into low orbit around the Earth.

In 2004, Burt Rutan witnessed the successful launch of SpaceShipOne, as his team won the $10m prize for having the first private ship to fly 100km above Earth's surface.

By the end of this decade, Virgin Galactic aims to take people into space from a spaceport in New Mexico.

After consulting the public, the FAA should publish its final report before June 2006.

marx tonite

Hey i don't think I'm going to do marx tonite. Feeling kind of under the weather, and I never got around to finding any quality tunes this weekend, and I have some important things to take care of at home.

On an unrelated note, what do you do when you have lost every form of ID know to man? Driver's license, social security card, birth certifacte, passport, etc.. Can i still get a basic ID from the DMV?

update: So I ended up going there anyways and just hanging out. The dude who schedules dj's for marx seemed real disappointed, and when I told him that I hadn't gotten any new music since last week he said I should have just played the stuff from two weeks ago. oh well. I'm going to make sure i have some fresh shit for next week.

heath ledger

From this......

to this.....

Does anyone else not find it absoultley fucking hillariously ironic that heath ledger is playing a gay cowboy in brokeback mountian and at the same time, often times right next door, staring as the epotime of renissance lovers in Cassanova?? The optimist in me would like to belive that this is mearly evidence of how fantasticaly forward our society has moved in recent years, or is this some type of awful studio accident that noone could have predicted?

could you kill your food?

some shit I wrote on the buzz board in response to a thread about the PETA employee who legally changed his name to KentuckyFriedCruelty.com. here's the link to the story.
ya know, it's hearing about things like this that are slowly beginning to change my thoughts concerning the practice of willfully abusing other creatures for sustenance. I really don't see any fundamental difference between the practice commonly referred to as "humanely slaughtering a chicken intended for human consumption” and something else like violently punting it across the room after ripping its wings and feathers all asunder before ramming a steel rod through its midsection and placing the tasty meal above a nicely stoked fire.

It's not like I am going to become a vegan tomorrow or the next day, but I am merely recognizing at face value the inherent cruelty that fuels life. It’s a simple fact that death enables life. If you believe otherwise, you’re either delusional or stupid.

Many people will gladly and without a hint of remorse or second thought consume a finely prepared dish of lamb shank at a five star restaurant, yet were the same individuals to find themselves presented with the breathing healthy animal, spices, sharp knives and a raging fire they would be entirely incapable of recreating the afore mentioned meal. That is utter hypocrisy in my mind. If you eat chicken mc-fuckin'-nugets at all you should be prepared to personally wring the life from the bird and prepare it, if otherwise don't do it at all.

Me personally; I don’t have a problem with it; I appreciate the fact that some toothless yokel in an Arkansas factory farm has taken all the work out of my chicken strips. I think these are questions every person should consider for themselves.

I got a new bike, i think.

I'm the leading bidder! It's just like my stolen bike cept it has a buncha upgraded parts, new wheels, chain, etc. I can't wait to get it in the mail! I also bought a $100 Dolche & Gabana track suit for lounging around the house.

No-one better try and snipe this auction, I'm staying here at work until it closes to ensure I'm riding around town by this time next week. Weee!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI....

update: Fuck, I got outbid on the bike. This sucks, less the shipping charges I was literally outbid by $1. I messaged the high bidder and offered him $50 to drop the auction in my favor, but nothing doing. This sucks. Perhaps I should have actually stayed at work until it closed like I said I would, instead of going shopping at the giants for caviar and cheese (no joke there, among other things that's what I bought). Fuck. I doubt I'll see another bike like that for sale anytime soon. Ya know; I almost knew this would happen.. Me screaming earlier about how no-one better snipe me on this auction, well it happened. This is a lesson that I have to learn and soon! I would go on and on about instances over the past three years where my instincts screamed out to me at times and I merely shrugged them off, and as such the consequences I felt were immense and then later I was like, "wow, if only I had listened to my initial gut reaction on this, I wouldn't be here now". Fuckers, all. Ya hear?

YEAHHHH!!!

MARX was rather chill last nite. I spun out some atroucious garrage music and some particularly putrid house. I closed with some instrumental jamican dance music that noone appreciated. Some random hipster looking doofus asked me to turn it down and in response I punched him in the face while rudely fondling his date.

Ok, so it didn't really go like that at all. It went well, I got some compliments from a chunky woman who said her name was kate. The new tuesday bartender there, replacing my roomate Tom, i think his name is Mike, oh he's the owner to boot is a real chill guy. had one too many beers and I'm barely functioning here at work today, and I didn't make it in until 12, ouch my fucking head.

Can you believe that shit with the miners in PA? I left marx thinking that they were all found alive only to get the tragic news that this wasn't the case at all. I was so drunk and stupid at that point that I started to cry for them, i balled like a little girl i tell ya, and it felt good.

update: oh yeah, my card cleared thank god. i guess that possibly could have endangered me playing there in the future, "hey that's the bum that couldn't cover his tab last week" you get the idea. my consertation while mike ran the card was imense, then he handed me the recipet and i knew all was well. whew.... good times.

MARX is on tonite!

Yeah, first Tuesday at MARX for the 06! 3203 Mount Pleasent Street, I'll be playing from 11-12. I'm psyched, got some new tunes and no money. No free drinks on me tonight. I really hate banks. In this day and age it's ridiculous that I have to wait till Wachovia’s computers "update" (whatever the fuck that means). Since I made my deposit on Saturday, not a "business day", my account wont reflects the new money until tonight, sometime after midnight. Is it too risky to start running up a large bar tab, on the chance that I'll actually be able to pay it after the money hopefully clears? Yup, that's how we do things here. So at 2am tonight when I go to clear out my tab and the check card bounces on what will probably be at least $60. What do I do then? I don't know, hopefully I won't have to find out.

I really think this business day thing is a scam by the banks, or they need to overhaul their data infrastructure. Is there really any practical reason why a bank ever needs to close? I don't necessarily mean the brick n' mortar bank, as it would hardly make sense to staff the counters at all hours of the night, but shouldn't the electronic machinery keep the books open? If someone wires me money from somewhere remote it would be nice to see that reflected on an ATM receipt a couple of minutes later. I guess I’m asking for too much, it’s enough that every 5th deposit isn’t lost outright, without the bank employees managing to correctly spell their own last names. I realize that this problem isn’t limited to just Wachovia, that just happens to be my financial institution of choice. Although I have been thinking of switching to PNC, maybe I should capitalize on this groundswell of frustration I’m feeling here and switch banks. Like I said I would expect the same performance from any other bank, but if I were to change banks I could ad that to my growing list of 06 accomplishments, it’s called “Things I should have done last year”. Oops, time to get back to work.

Oh yeah, mention my blog and get a free drink, maybe.

NFLs first drop kick since 1941.

I'm trying to find video of this. Records have been broken in the 06, flutie dropkicks it!
Flutie Hits NFL's 1st Drop Kick Since '41
The Associated Press

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. Jan 1, 2006 — Doug Flutie added another oddity to his football resume on Sunday when he converted a drop kick in the fourth quarter of the New England Patriots' game against the Miami Dolphins.

It was the league's first drop kick since the 1941 NFL championship game, according to the web site for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

With starting quarterback Tom Brady sitting out most of the season-ending game, backup Matt Cassel threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Tim Dwight to cut Miami's lead to 25-19 with 6:10 left in the game. Flutie, who was listed as the No. 3 QB, came in for the extra point and lined up at quarterback.

After a timeout, Flutie took the snap, dropped the ball and kicked it off a short hop through the uprights for one point. He ran off the field and embraced coach Bill Belichick.

According to the Hall of Fame site, Chicago's Ray "Scooter" McLean converted the last drop kick in the Bears' 37-9 victory over the New York Giants on Dec. 21, 1941.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Well, 06 is going well so far, but it's still way to early to be able to tell if 06 will be better than 05, cause 05 was a bad year, so looking forward from here it's easy to assume that 06 will be better than 05. Cause for me and probably a third of the people I know agree that 05 really tested us all and broke the mold for rotten experiences. Perhaps in the future we will look back and see that 06 succeeded in sucking less than 05. I think that this is the best we can hope for. I know that 06 will invariably be filled with it's own special mistakes, accidents, intentional tragedies and terrific failures, so in light of this I will take heart in the knowledge that 06 will be able by comparison to improve our outlook if only through such lucid judgment and bent logic.
